What Is AYNF

The African Youth Negotiators Fellowship strengthens Africa's climate diplomacy capacity by equipping young leaders to engage effectively in global climate governance and translate decisions into national action. Launched by Green Africa Youth Organization, AYNF is a continental platform designed to close the climate negotiation capacity gap for African youth. It connects climate literacy, negotiation training, structured mentorship, and post-COP implementation pathways into one integrated governance model.

AYNF gave me a practical entry point into climate diplomacy. Through the fellowship’s structured learning and negotiation simulations, I gained a clearer understanding of how climate negotiations unfold.

Mohsin Maltiti Mohammed AYNF Fellow 2025

AYNF strengthened my work as a climate communications professional by helping me move from advocacy-only engagement to informed climate governance participation.

Hilda Aku AYNF Fellow 2025

Before AYNF, I was leading climate initiatives in Northern Ghana, but my understanding of formal climate governance and decision-making processes was limited. AYNF was a major turning point.

Fathiaya Zakari AYNF Fellow 2024

During the fellowship, I led the Arab Group in the COP simulation, coordinating positions and supporting consensus-building, an experience that sharpened both my strategic thinking and confidence.

Why It Matters

Africa Needs Negotiation-Ready Youth

Africa contributes less than 4 percent of global emissions yet faces disproportionate climate impacts. AYNF ensures youth are credible contributors within processes under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change rather than symbolic participants.
